Configuring Auto-Registration in CUCM7

With CUCM you can auto-register phones provided a simple configuration is in place.  While this is not rocket science it’s nice to have the walkthrough to look back on so here it goes.
Ensure that the Cisco CallManager service is enabled by going to Cisco Unified Serviceability then select Tools>Service Activation and ensure that the Call Manager Service is enabled.

Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch!

Next go to Cisco Unified CM Administration and select System>Cisco Unified CM
Once there you should notice that the default configuration has auto-registration disabled.

Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch!

While auto-registration is disabled the phone will cycle…

Masking the Server in an HTTP header using Cisco ASA.

It’s been a bit since I have posted but a lot has been going on. I’ve recently launched my CCNA Mentoring Program, I was a Customer Speaker at CiscoLive in San Francisco, and I’ve had a ton of family and friends at my house. While I had the opportunity to speak this year at CiscoLive one of the attendees requested a configuration that I mentioned when talking about the ASA. The idea was to mask the banner of a web server using the ASA. Referring to the figure below, here is how it works.

The User on the Desktop PC…

CCIE R&S Studies- May 27th 2009

Today, as I stare at my challenge of CCIE in 90 days, I worked on IPexpert R&S Volume 1 Lab 2. I am currently only about 12 steps in but have realized that some things are just tedious. For example, one task asked to make sure all ports not in use are static access. This sounds like an easy task until you have to look at each port status. I have become fond of the command:
show interface status | in Name|Administrative Mode|Operational Mode
It’s still a lot to pick through but at least its filtered a but.
Another issue…

Quote of the Day: Lee Segall

I don’t usually have a quote of the day but I’ve finished reading “Ready for Anything” by David Allen.  If you are not familiar with David Allen he is basically an Efficiency coach.  He wrote a book called “Getting Things Done” which I read about 14 months ago.  I really enjoyed that book and it helped to break up the monotony of my CCIE study.  Because of that I decided to read his other book in my spare time.
At any rate, the point is that I came across this quote in there that made me re-think how I have…

Quiet Times on the Blog Front

I think every CCIE candidate goes through a time like I am right now. At least, they do when they pass. Its been about a month since I passed the lab in RTP and since then it has been really difficult for me to blog about anything. I know this sucks for CCNA Wireless candidates because my blog over at Network World is suffering as well. The thing is, I am really unmotivated right now. I know there are a number of new and exciting things I want to do, like going after a second CCIE, but its really hard…
