Does It Really Matter How Many Fans You Have?

Last week we finished up the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program and while some people may or may not have reached the 3,000 fan target, the real question is: does the number of fans really matter? Last night I was watching a video of Seth Godin where he says “it’s worthless to have lots and lots of friends on Facebook.” With so many people selling the importance of having fans, followers, and friends though, how could Seth Godin, a thought leader in marketing, make such an assertion?

It’s Relationship Marketing
Seth has a valid point. If you don’t build…

Scrappage scheme extension could increase demand for car loans

Carmakers have called for governments across Europe to extend the car scrappage schemes that have helped to increase new car sales, according to the BBC.A number of major economies introduced scrappage schemes as an incentive for motorists to replace their old vehicles with brand-new ones, boosting sales for the struggling industry. But car manufacturers are concerned that when these schemes come to an end, sales could fall once again. An extension to the scheme would also give an extra boost to the car finance industry, which helps many people buy the new cars they may otherwise be unable to afford.A car…

How To Use Competitive Analysis To Boost Your Facebook Fan Base

This is Day 26 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.
If you are the average small business owner, there is a good chance that the majority of your competition isn’t doing much in the social media space. However there always is at least one person who stands out from the rest and I’m sure you can think of at least one company which accels where others aren’t even trying. Magna sees Opel paying back state loans by 2015

FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Magna will cut about 10,500 Opel jobs in Europe, the bulk in Germany, as it acts to return the carmaker to profit and pay back 4.5 billion euros ($6.55 billion) in state aid, its co-chief executive said. The Canadian auto parts supplier aims to sign a deal with former Opel parent General Motors within two weeks to buy a 55 percent stake together with Russian partner Sberbank, Siegfried Wolf said on Monday. “By 2015 we want to pay back the government-guaranteed loans. Opel will be profitable before that, however,” Wolf told a news conference. Around 4,000…

Ebay is Boring Compared to New Electronics Auction

Burbank, California – Muulu (muulu.com) is growing in popularity as a cheaper alternative to eBay. Why? Because the average winning bid for new electronics items, like iPhones, game systems, and iPods, is substantially lower on Muulu than on Ebay. People pay for bids. These payments buy down the possible winning price of the item being auctioned until it is won for well below wholesale price. Other electronic items include HDTVs, laptops, desktop computers, and GPS systems.

The biggest thing that draws people to Muulu is the insane deals. People can win a new Apple iPod Touch for $90, a new…

fbFund Startup Thread.com Gets $1.2 Million In Funding

Today at the fbFund REV demo day, Thread.com (formally “Frinto”) announced that they have received funding from a number of well known valley investors. Thread.com leverages Facebook Connect to create a site for social dating via friendly introductions. While Facebook has a number of large dating applications, none of them work quite as smoothly as this one.

Interestingly enough there are a number of dating applications that are attempting to do the same thing but none have relied solely on Facebook Connect. Honestly, I think it’s a great idea and given that users can instantly bring along their contacts when…

Zong Becomes First Mobile Payment Provider To Test Integration With Facebook Credits

While much of the U.S. uses credit cards to make online purchases, many other countries still don’t have easy services for making online transactions. Mobile transactions are clearly a step in that direction. The first company to test mobile payments with Facebook is Zong, as spotted by Erin McCune earlier yesterday. Facebook has also confirmed that they are currently working with developers to test a variety of payment integrations.

This is a big step for Zong who is currently one of the leading mobile payment providers (as well as a sponsor of this site). Interestingly enough, payments through mobile providers…
