So what I am going to do in this article is to go through some of the bare basics of SEO that you, as a small business owner, can implement into your website. This article is not intended for experienced SEO gurus and experts who always seem…

Toilet and Figlet
We thought [Kristofer's] Tech Tip about using figlet with scripts was kind of fun. It’s a throwback to the days of logging onto a BBS and being greeted by a vertically scrolling ASCII art image that had been meticulously hand crafted (although a lot of the coolest stuff was actually ANSI art). No hand crafting here, just feed (or pipe) your text to figlet and it outputs the message in ASCII style letters.
When we went to try install this in Ubuntu, the toilet package was suggested. This one’s worth checking out too. It works in much the same…
FanChecker Launches An Ad Network For Facebook Pages
While most people don’t the “problem” of thousands of daily page views to their Facebook Pages, many large page administrators have an untapped monetization opportunity which is where FanChecker comes in. FanChecker is a new service which lets Page administrators get paid for advertisements placed on their Facebook Page. The service dynamically loads keyword based products that page administrators get paid for once a user makes a purchase.
In essence it’s an extremely basic CPA (cost per action) advertising model. While the company is claiming that the “earnings per click is up to $0.30″, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll generate…
Tap-controlled metronome
[Adam] and his buddy [Matthew] sent in their tap-controlled metronome, or as they prefer, “metronome with an attitude.” Using the piezo speaker you can tap patterns and rhythm into the memory and it will repeat it back to you in loop. The two buttons allow you to speed up or slow down the beat which is indicated by an led array. As per their request, we mention its entirely on a PIC 16F, not an Arduino. Perhaps the most interesting part we found that’s definitely worth checking out was their amazingly detailed build process. Check out a quick video…
fbFund REV Demo Day Is Today
Today Facebook will be hosting the fbFund REV demo day to showcase the 25 companies that participated in the first incubator program run in partnership with Facebook and Founder’s Fund. Dave McClure was the primary organizer of this year’s program but Facebook is clearly pumped up about this year’s companies and the new format. Last week I had a chance to speak with Cat Lee of the Platform Product Marketing team to discuss what will be taking place later today.
All of the developers that were part of this year’s program will be showing off their evolved products tomorrow and…

Phasma insectoid
When we saw the video of the Phasma insectoid robot above, we immediately thought of the iSprawl. After checking out their site, it turns out that the two are connected in some way, we’re not sure how, maybe just inspiration. The Phasma gives us a little more insight into the construction of the bot. The photos are highly detailed so you can see how the drive works, using the sliding cables to extend the “feet”. It seems quite agile in the video. The drive system, working off of a single cam seems like it would be easy to convert…
Interfacing a digital rotary switch
[hw640] has put together a well written and detail packed explanation of how to interface with a digital rotary switch. These digital opto encoders have just two outputs with four possible logic levels (00, 10, 11, 01). The relative position of the switch is insignificant but the direction of rotation is what matters.
The short and dirty: Each of the switch’s 2 output pins is attached to a pin change interrupt on the microcontroller. Every time the switch moves it generates either a rising edge or a falling edge on one of the two pins; both edges cause an…
Teeth Whitening in Illinois
Teeth whitening in Illinois is important so that people can have that perfect smile. It turns people off when they see discolored teeth. It reflects how you are as a person in terms of hygiene and personal care.
With teeth whitening, you can change all that. Just imagine how people would react to you once they see you smiling. In addition, you will gain your old confidence back. No more tight-lipped smile or hiding behind your hands just so people will not see your teeth.
Teeth whitening methods basically reverse the discoloration process. Some methods are even about bleaching the…
How To Create A Facebook Note That Spreads Like Wildfire
This is Day 9 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.
Remember the viral Facebook note about “25 things about me”? If you don’t then you probably haven’t been on Facebook for long. The 25 things about me note spread through Facebook and touched millions of users before it eventually died out. The main ideas behind the note was similar to a chain letter. You write 25 things people don’t know about you and then tag your friends and ask them to write the note as well. The end result was…
Arduino USB host shield
Circuits@Home has been journaling their development of a USB host mode shield for Arduino, which could bring a veritable explosion of mass storage, keyboard input and countless other peripherals (and a corresponding raft of new hacks) to the platform. Currently at the prototype stage, a ready-made shield and library are forthcoming, so keep checking back. Meanwhile, for embedded developers wanting to learn the ropes of USB, the in-progress articles will likely provide some valuable insights.

Basic Financial Information Tips
Here are some additional financial tips, definitions, and information that will hopefully help you save money or get out of debt.
Scams & bad deals. Identity theft is the #1 scam. Keep your account #s, and Social Security # out of the hands of those who don’t need to know them. Don’t pay up-front fees in hopes of obtaining a loan or a credit card. An exception to this rule is a home loan, which usually involves appraisal and credit report fees – paid in advance. Popular loan scams ask people to send a fee for a promised loan or…
