We’ve been covering the changes expected to be announced at today’s Facebook developer garage today. The company has decided to stream the event live and we’ve posted it below. We’ll post a follow-up article with details that are covered through today’s announcements. Developers are understandably concerned about the upcoming changes, but as I wrote an hour ago, it’s likely that many developers will quickly adapt to the changes.

JibJab, GreetBeatz, And someecards Now In Facebook Gift Shop

Facebook has been slowly rolling out tests to select developers that want to integrate with the Facebook gift shop. As of today there are approximately 5 companies that have been participating in tests: American Greetings, RealGifts, JibJab, GreetBeatz, and someecards. The latter three only recently began showing up in the gift shop. However Facebook has been testing out the gift shop as a platform for developers to sell virtual gifts over the past few months.

Back in August, the company also announced the addition of a number of non-profit companies that have begun using the Facebook gift shop as a…

Facebook Releases Developer Tool To Stress Test Connect Implementations

Earlier this week, Facebook announced a new tool for developers to enable them to test new implementations of Facebook Connect and to ensure that the service is always running. The tool leverages Waitr, an open-sourced Ruby library for automating internet browsers. It will automatically run browsers for you and provides an interface for quickly navigating and interacting with a web page’s various components. The point is to ensure that Facebook Connect is always working.

Funny enough, I tested out StreamDiff, a Connect-enabled application that was tested with this new tool but I couldn’t get through the entire authentication process. Regardless…

@You Can Now Tag Users, Pages, And Apps On Facebook

Last week we wrote about Facebook’s new tagging functionality but as of this afternoon the feature finally went live. While the functionality is no different than initially described, many users are finding that this transforms the overall user experience. There are also many objects on Facebook which still can’t be tagged with applications and pages such as photos. You also can’t include tags within Facebook messages but I’d expect more robust tagging functionality to be added over the coming weeks and months.

So does this new functionality eliminate the need for Twitter? No, but it most definitely helps users to…

iTunes Has New Facebook Feature But Is Apple Preparing To Take On Facebook Credits?

iTunes may have just taken a massive blow at iLike today with the launch of a “share on Facebook” feature which will enable users to post iTunes songs to their profile. While there are few details about the new feature, there is the potential that actual song samples will eventually be posted to your Facebook feed. Such a move would be a direct attack on iLike who began offering a similar service since Facebook first opened up the stream. While the new “Share on Facebook” feature is extremely valuable, of more interest was a statement by Apple about the number…

C64 emulator for iPhone approved — minus BASIC

After a lengthy process that had previously met with rejection, Manomio’s Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhone and iPod touch has finally been accepted by Apple. This marks the first time a multi-purpose emulation title has been approved by the App Store. The $4.99 C64 app comes bundled with five fully-licensed classic games, and additional titles can be purchased and downloaded directly within the application.
App Store policies prohibit software that could run downloadable code, which barred most emulation attempts in the past. A couple of Sega titles worked around this by nature of being single-purpose emulators. The condition by which the…
