IBM, ISB ties up for service science research centre

IBM and the Indian School of Business (ISB) on Monday said they have established a research “collaboratory” at the ISB campus for furthering research in service science. IBM and ISB have been working closely on service science research for last few years. This collaboratory marks the beginning of a new phase of an expanded relationship between the two organisations. An IBM collaboratory is a laboratory where IBM researchers co-locate with a university, the government, or commercial partner to share skills, assets, and resources to achieve a common research goal. The new collaboratory will initially have a team of 10 full-time…

Facebook’s New Pages: What Has Changed?

This is Day 1 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.

On March 4th of this year, Facebook released an updated version on what was previously called “Facebook Pages”, then renamed to “Facebook Public Profiles”. While it has been months since the update, the changes are significant enough that I think they’re worth noting. The update essentially transformed the ways that brands could interact with both existing customers as well as potential future customers.

While many described it as a move against Twitter (including myself), the dynamic between Twitter and Facebook…

Facebook Search Now Comes With A Little More Bing

Facebook has been beta testing its new search since June 16th and more recently the company began displaying search engine result pages (SERPs) that have a greater emphasis on Bing results. While many of you are looking for a little more bling to add to your attire, Facebook thinks that for the time being you’ll be satisfied with a little more Bing. The Bing results used to be displayed primarily in the “Sponsored Results” area but now they have their own section of the results page.

So how significant of a change is this? Very big (I’m currently holding my…

Facebook Emphasizes Insights To Page Admins

Do you know how to track all of the visitors and new fans to your Facebook Page? If you didn’t you aren’t alone. Up until recently, Page insights were not obvious to Page admins and as a result many were finding it difficult to keep track of who was coming to their page. Enter the new insights box which emphasizes the quality of newly published items and how many people have engaged with your page.

The feature started showing up yesterday evening and while it doesn’t appear to work perfectly (I sometimes get 0 for “Post Quality” and 0 for…

The Abstraction Of Facebook Pages As An Embeddable Product And The Community Platform API

Mark Zuckerberg has said on a number of instances that the future of Facebook does not exist on Facebook.com. The emphasis is on Facebook as an identity platform and Facebook Connect which will continue to expand over time. If the entire platform is going to take place elsewhere on the web then it would only make sense that we begin to see Facebook Pages do the exact same thing.

Facebook Pages has become an easy to configure instant community platform and while I currently recommend that individuals drive their users to their Facebook Page, it would make much more sense…

Facebook Launching Updated Inbox

This afternoon Facebook announced that they are launching an updated version of their inbox. Finally! So what changes are coming to the inbox? A few things. The greatest improvement is the ability to filter through those messages that have been unread. Facebook Page updates will also get their own tab, which is surprising since it had previously appeared as though the company was reducing the emphasis on Page updates.

Facebook said that the new version of the inbox will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Facebook also states that “The new Inbox design gives you more control over organizing…

One Year Later, Facebook Connect Goes Live On Digg

At last year’s annual f8 event, Digg came on stage to announce that they would be officially supporting Facebook Connect. Almost one year later, support has finally gone live. We’ve take a look and it’s a pretty basic integration. Essentially you can login using your Facebook account and whenever you Digg an article, you are prompted with the option of publishing that Digg to your feed. I haven’t yet figured out if new Diggs will be published twice if you had previously imported your Digg account.

Kevin Rose announced the service this afternoon on the Digg blog. In addition to…
