Its been a few months since I passed the CCIE Security exam.  Since then I have been working on Voice and R&S but jumping back and forth.  It’s not the study plan I would follow if I had things my way.  Alas, work, family, and study all have to come together in a fine balance for me to acomplish anything.  It took me 2 years and three attempts to pass the Security Lab. Today, as I stare at my challenge of CCIE in 90 days, I worked on IPexpert R&S Volume 1 Lab 2. I am currently only about 12 steps in but have realized that some things are just tedious. For example, one task asked to make sure all ports not in use are static access. This sounds like an easy task until you have to look at each port status. I have become fond of the command:
show interface status | in Name|Administrative Mode|Operational Mode
It’s still a lot to pick through but at least its filtered a but.

Interesting statement…but one that’s direct from Cisco. In October, CCIE R&S undergoes a “real world” revision to make the skills more applicable to day-to-day jobs. Interesting quote from Maurilio Gorito (he was my proctor “back in the day”):

I don’t usually have a quote of the day but I’ve finished reading “Ready for Anything” by David Allen.  If you are not familiar with David Allen he is basically an Efficiency coach.  He wrote a book called “Getting Things Done” which I read about 14 months ago.  I really enjoyed that book and it helped to break up the monotony of my CCIE study.  Because of that I decided to read his other book in my spare time.
