Changes to GlobalConfig.net

I want to take a minute to address the over 450 subscribers here at GlobalConfig.net.  Over a year ago when I started blogging I was primarily about my CCIE Studies.  Now that I have passed the CCIE Security I am on to the R&S and Voice, kinda at the same time.  With that, work, and family it’s been difficult to bring you fresh, useful content.  That’s all about to change.
Here are the changes to the blog that I believe will make it a better resource for you:

The Domain Changed to http://www.ascoltablogs.com.  The old URL will still work- but…

Facebook Now Testing New Ad Manager

Over the past few days Facebook has been pushing out a new version of their ad manager to a select group of advertisers. One of those advertisers, Tradimax, was kind enough to forward over screenshots of the latest ad manager. While we’ve previously written that Facebook has been working on a new iteration of their ad management system, this is the first time that we’ve had access to the screenshots and the first we’ve heard of this system being used by advertisers.

There are a few key changes with this new ad manager: multi-ad management, a manager-wide campaign selection area,…

New Facebook Application Creating Massive Volumes Of Photo Spam

The photo tagging phenomenon has officially jumped the shark on Facebook with the All my Friends! application which lets you instantly tag your friends in pre-made images. It’s not exactly a new concept but for some reason this iteration of the application has been extremely successful having attracted over 5 million users so far and growing daily.

The application could actually be a useful service but the way that ads are currently posted within the application makes us think that this app was simply developed to attract millions of users and generate a quick buck. I’ve written about these multi-user…

Apple gives c64 emulator the boot

After making it to the top 20 in most regions, Apple has removed the c64 emulator for the iPhone from the App Store. Apparently the thorough app review process didn’t discover that the BASIC system had not been removed from the app, but was instead merely hidden.
Another revision of the emulator has been submitted for review but how long will that take?  What is the review process for if they’re not looking deep enough to find specific functions they don’t want an app to have? Approving apps and pulling them a few days later is another Hot Coffee…

When Facebook Fans Turn Ugly: Examining The Honda Accord Crosstour Page

There’s been some buzz among car enthusiasts over the past couple days surrounding a new Facebook Page that was launched by Honda to promote their soon to be released Accord Crosstour. The company expected to be embraced lovingly by fans but instead the crowd turned ugly. Numerous comments were posted by users, stating how ugly the car was and that they’d never buy it.

Eddie Okubo of Honda then posted a comment to the page stating that he loved the new car design without disclaiming that he works for the company. Honda eventually removed the comment from Eddie, but not…

Submit Your Social Media Marketing Programs To The Social Times 25!

As the deadline for this year’s Social Times 25 came to a close last week, I received a lot of submissions. Many companies have also asked for an extra few days. Given that we’ve been busy rolling out other projects, I’ve decided to extend the deadline by one week (this Thursday, August 27th). Also, we’ve decided to allow nominations from those individuals who don’t work at any marketing firms but have seen social media marketing programs that illustrate excellence.

Facebook Kills Feed Highlights. Time To Declare News Feed Optimization Dead? (Updated)

I knew something was missing from the Facebook homepage for the past few days but not until this morning did I realize what was now absent: highlights. For those unaware of what feed highlights were, they were supposed to be the most relevant stories for a user. I noticed more recently that many of the feed stories weren’t very relevant to me and apparently many other users realized the same thing because now they’re gone.

At one point Facebook’s feed was a filtered system which automatically determined which stories were more relevant but with the Twitterfication of Facebook the feed…

CIPT1 test closing in on me.

Well it’s been an interesting week for me.  I took a little down time to camp with the kids.  I spent a few days over on Whidbey Island at a camp site on the beach.  It was pretty relaxing but in the back of my mind I knew I had this CIPT1 test coming up.  At any rate, I am not quite thru the Cisco Press book by Dennis Hartmann, I’m actually about 80 pages shy.  I also have the Quick Reference Sheets that I will scan thru tomorrow night before the test on Saturday morning.  Provided I pass with…

Update on my progress.

It’s been a few days since I’ve had a real post, although I have added some comments into the link posts that I’ve added.  If you haven’t noticed I just installed a new toolbar on the bottom of the site for your reading enjoyment.  If you find something you like you can easly share it now.
As for me, it has been crazy.  At one point in time I had 13 people in my house.  Now that all the visitors are gone and things are settled down I am getting back into the swing of things.  I’ve done some light…
