New Bredolab Virus Targets Unsuspecting Facebook Users

There’s a new virus spreading around the web via email which targets Facebook users. According to mxlab, the email includes downloadable files which include the Trojan virus: Bredolab. While I’d imagine that Gmail and more aggressive spam blocking email services will filter this out, anybody who receives a “Facebook Password Reset Confirmation” email should delete it right away.

According to mxlab, the body of the email is as follows:

Hey vguysville ,
Because of the measures taken to provide safety to our clients, your password has been changed.
You can find your new password in attached document.
Thanks,

To Blog, Or Not To Blog?

p>We have now entered the world of blogs! Sounds kind of HarryPotterish, doesn’t it?If you’re over years old, you probably think this is somecrazy sci-fi phenomenon, or I’ve simply lost my mind. Don’tfret, the vast majority of people don’t know what a blog is allabout – and more importantly, why it matters to them.If you’re under you can stop reading because you probablyknow all about blogs, and the value they have in sharinginformation. You’ve been trading game-breaking codes, South Parkclips, and jokes through blogs for months now – or maybe evenyears. In a recent article, Johnson Ong quips "I have a…

Google to Trolls: please flame EVERY web site

Google has unveiled their latest web app. It’s called Google Sidewiki and makes it easy to “Contribute helpful information to any webpage”. We’re not quite so sure. If you have the Google Toolbar installed on your browser, Sidewiki allows you to open a side-panel, add your comments about the page, and read the comments of others.
In a Utopian Internet (Utopernet?) the world’s most predominant experts on all subjects would be browsing websites dropping off clairvoyant nuggets of wisdom like Greek oracles. In reality, letting anyone add to any web page does not equate to instant insight. We’re all…

Jolicloud OS seeks to move past browsers

Jolicloud is a new Linux based operating system aimed at netbooks. The developers were nice enough to let us get our hands on their closed development version of the new OS. This distribution is built off of Ubuntu Netbook Remix(9.04 Jaunty Jackalope). At first glance it looks like nothing more than Ubuntu with a new skin, but the difference is deeper. Jolicloud added an App Store type program that offers installation of web applications along with traditional desktop apps. Using Mozilla Prism, web based applications like Facebook, Gmail, and Wikipedia are installed, get their own icon in the launcher,…

Trim the fat from Gmail

Google’s Gmail is a highly viable option for email. With numerous features and options like widgets, a task list, labels, and chat, Gmail has a slight tendency to get overwhelming and might force us to loose focus on what it is really all about: email.
What can make Gmail better? For starters, how about no ads; they are cluttering and distracting. What about getting rid of the widgets and unnecessary features like labels and chat that we think are supposed to make us more productive but really only make us lose our focus to send, read and reply to…

For so many of us that have always taken the reliability of Gmail for granted it was a real shock to lose all of the functionality of the web based system. Now that we’ve learned our lesson, here’s a couple of tips to help you out the next time there’s an outage.

Phishing PayPal email includes web form

I got a phishing spam PayPal email that mimics the address Support.com in my Gmail account, with title “Important Message” and a html file (Restore_Your_PayPal_Account.html) that asks me to fill up my Credit The form sends the filled in details to the host http://74.108.18.44/user/infos.php
and when processed it will redirect you to the PayPal web site. When we tested this we got a Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Driver error as a result. which is not paypal’s website.  Here’s part of the heading of the email from the original message, which can be seen in GMail by clicking the…

FaceFeed: Why Facebook Acquired FriendFeed

I just got off the phone with Mike Schroepfer of Facebook and Paul Buchheit of FriendFeed to discuss their acquisition. As you’ve probably read elsewhere, the companies are being relatively tight lipped about information surrounding the acquisition but I thought I’d take the opportunity to discuss why Facebook would make such an acquisition. Before discussing the logic behind Facebook’s acquisition of FriendFeed, I wanted to note that I asked Paul Buchheit (who was the the creator of GMail) if he’d be developing FMail and he said “Not that I’m aware of!”

Why The Acquisition Went Down
I think it’s pretty…

Facebook Announces FriendFeed Acquisition

Facebook has announced this afternoon the acquisition of FriendFeed. For those unaware of the FriendFeed service, it enables users to publish stories just as Facebook does with feeds imported from around the web and open APIs for all information passing through the system. One interesting note about FriendFeed is the team’s remarkable ability to scale their application effectively without error.

The team has also developed a fairly robust search tool. The 12 person team has been building some pretty impressive technologies and while growth has not been as large as Twitter, the company has done an amazing job at building…

sent in this project called Droplet. He’s been doing work with Xbees and Arduinos together and built this little toy. He describes it as “sort of like a Chumby”. It has built in services for Twitter, Google Calendar, News, Gmail, etc.  You can download the full source code and plans on his site. His next planned revisions include possibly running it from a sheevaplug, making a nice case for it, and utilizing the unused pins of the arduino.

All Facebook Is Now Available In French

Earlier this year I began receiving a lot of inquiries about translating the site into other languages. I’ve been forced to put off the launch since I was busy working on other stuff but last week I finally got around to launching the French version of AllFacebook. Right now I am being helped by the team over at KRDS. This is more of an experiment than anything else but I’m pretty excited to expand internationally.

We’ve also had a number of other people reach out about producing a translated version of the site. If you are interested in creating a…
