Does It Really Matter How Many Fans You Have?

Last week we finished up the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program and while some people may or may not have reached the 3,000 fan target, the real question is: does the number of fans really matter? Last night I was watching a video of Seth Godin where he says “it’s worthless to have lots and lots of friends on Facebook.” With so many people selling the importance of having fans, followers, and friends though, how could Seth Godin, a thought leader in marketing, make such an assertion?

It’s Relationship Marketing
Seth has a valid point. If you don’t build…

SocialHour Relaunches As Dizzy Networks (Updated)

It appears that Social Hour, one of the few ad networks to be completely banned from the Facebook platform, has now relaunched under a new name: Dizzy Networks. According to one source, Social Hour had been looking for a new face for the company and according to the company’s website, they hired Jeremy Olsson, who was previously the Director of Performance Marketing for RockYou. While the company is still focused on trying to convert IQ quizzes, it doesn’t appear as though Dizzy Networks is running as aggressive of advertisements this time around.

It was only a matter of time before…

Facebook Now Providing Ad Click Estimates

Want to know how many people will click on the new Facebook ad that you are creating? Now you can. Over the past few weeks Facebook has been testing out advertisement click estimates for campaigns and it appears it is back. While it doesn’t work for all campaigns, it’s an extremely useful feature. However it appears that there are still a few bugs.

In the process of creating one of my own ad campaigns I found that reducing my ad’s click bid would result in an increased volume of clicks. Does that really make much sense? Not really unless Facebook…

Another Facebook Newsfeed RSS Application Emerges, Will Facebook Let It Stay?

Back in May Facebook shut down an application that converted your Facebook news feed into its RSS equivalent. In theory it makes a lot of sense but unfortunately Facebook claims that such actions violate their privacy policy. Months later another developer has released an RSS application which displays the most recent stories in RSS format.

The new system doesn’t appear to use Facebook’s Open Stream which makes me guess this one will be shut down as well. It’s unfortunate because this is clearly a feature that many users want. Listening is one of the most important social media activities and…

NBC Universal Launches Facebook Connect Across Multiple Properties

Today NBC Universal announced the implementation of Facebook Connect across multiple sites including USANetwork.com, AccessHollywood.com, iVillage.com, Syfy.com, Oxygen.com, and NBCSports.com. So what’s the bigger picture here? Well Facebook just won another large media partner to help them become the center of our digital identities. Whether you are reading content about celebrities, or sharing information about women’s issues on iVillage.com, you’ll be able to share content and sync up your accounts.

Let’s Get Together And Share!
Sharing is caring and that’s why you can now share content directly from NBC’s various web properties. I’m still trying to figure out how these…

FaceFeed: Why Facebook Acquired FriendFeed

I just got off the phone with Mike Schroepfer of Facebook and Paul Buchheit of FriendFeed to discuss their acquisition. As you’ve probably read elsewhere, the companies are being relatively tight lipped about information surrounding the acquisition but I thought I’d take the opportunity to discuss why Facebook would make such an acquisition. Before discussing the logic behind Facebook’s acquisition of FriendFeed, I wanted to note that I asked Paul Buchheit (who was the the creator of GMail) if he’d be developing FMail and he said “Not that I’m aware of!”

Why The Acquisition Went Down
I think it’s pretty…

StudiVZ Investor Backs Facebook App Team

Last month I wrote about the fast growing Brain Buddies game which was a remix of “Who Has the Biggest Brain?”, one of Playfish’s top games. Today the developer behind Brain Buddies, wooga, announced that they received funding from none other than Holtzbrinck Ventures, one of the primary investors in StudiVZ, a German Facebook copycat (which was previously sued by Facebook).

I’ve been trying to get information about the size of the investment but the companies are releasing any information. My guess is this is between $500k and the low seven figures given the quality of the company’s first game.…

Discovery Launches Facebook Connect Enabled Shark Week Promotion

Discovery is the latest company to launch a Facebook Connect enabled promotion that pulls in profile data into a custom generated video. This video is much more reminiscent of the Prototype game trailer that we previously wrote about. The promotion creatively depicts the viewers memories as they are being eaten by a shark. It also intelligently prompts a user to share the campaign after viewing the promotional video.

You can watch the video below to see how my version of the video turned out but I personally found it to be pretty slick. There’s also a job listing in the…

Magic

Just a puppet on a lonely string.

That was a bad move. I murmured to myself. What’s the point of doing things for people who doesn’t appreciate. Again and agian i feel like a vodoo.Way back to the holiday, who was the one, calling the name in terms of function; fleeing from one place to another? I can tell no one would serve you right-not even your close friend. Guess what, I was that vodoo..lol. What’s the worst that i can say if i told you that my very first intention was to built up a strong foundation for our function. What you cares about? I-DONT-CARE!If you pay…

Brain Buddies Remixes Popular Brain Teaser Application, Experiences Rapid Growth

They say imitation is the biggest form of flattery, so Playfish should be pretty flattered by German-based Wooga’s latest game: Brain Buddies. The application takes a similar approach to “Who Has the Biggest Brain?” but provides new forms of brain teasers. There are four alternative challenges, one of which is almost identical to one of the challenges in Playfish’s competing application. Right now the most popular strategy for success in the social gaming arena appears to be copy others and then promote.

The result has been multiple legal battles although none of them have resulted in any game changing decision…

Lock In Your Business Name On Facbeook Before Someone Steals It

Facebook has decided to let companies file their trademarks to prevent other users from registering a username that they have rights to. This has been an issue that many Twitter users have seen and the company has found it difficult to manage since they respond to trademark disputes on a case by case basis. Facebook is taking a different approach by letting users fill out a username prevention form. Businesses must have a “registration number” but I’m not sure what number Facebook is looking for.

Is it the registration number of the company or a specific trademark registration number? My…
