Remember Mauritius from High School geography? We didn’t either, but apparently it’s a small island nation east of the southern tip of Africa. It seems they are trying to develop an industry in eco-friendly data centers. The plan is to use a pipeline to gather cold water from the ocean, run it two miles to the island, and use it as inexpensive cooling. Because rooms packed with servers generate copious amounts of heat it’s easy to see how this can reduce the cost of maintaining a data center.

There is more to these projects than simply filling a balloon and attaching a camera, so in order to allow everyone their 7 seconds of well deserved fame, we’ve compiled a quick list of similar high altitude balloons. MUMBAI: In A judgement that could have a bearing on the tax outgo of many stock brokers, the Bombay High Court on Friday ruled that depreciation cannot be claimed on stock exchange membership cards, while calculating tax liabilities. The I-T Department’s contention was that a membership card is not capable of diminishing in value due to its use, wear and tear and obsolescence. Counsel Vimal Gupta, assisted by advocate Suresh Kumar, who argued for the department, submitted that the card was a personal privilege, and not a licence or a commercial right. While most people don’t the “problem” of thousands of daily page views to their Facebook Pages, many large page administrators have an untapped monetization opportunity which is where FanChecker comes in. FanChecker is a new service which lets Page administrators get paid for advertisements placed on their Facebook Page. The service dynamically loads keyword based products that page administrators get paid for once a user makes a purchase.

These wearable LED toys called Bliplace are freshly made and headed to Burning Man. They’re pretty much just a sound reactive toy, but [Tanjent] decided to go pretty in depth in the design. They are 1″ wide octagons with 3 super bright LEDs and a microphone. The microphone is sampled at 4400 hz by the ATTiny25v and the signal is split into high and low frequency streams. Multiple serious security flaws in the Google Chrome browser could expose users to code execution attacks, according to an advisory released today.
The flaws, rated “high risk,” have been addressed in Google Chrome 2.0.172.43, which is released automatically to Chrome users.
Vulnerabilities include:
CVE-2009-2935 (High Severity): A flaw in the V8 Javascript engine might allow specially-crafted Javascript on a web page to read unauthorized memory, bypassing security checks. It is possible that this could lead to disclosing unauthorized data to an attacker or allow an attacker to run arbitrary code. Technical details are being withheld until the fix is shipped…
