Brand Lift: Facebook’s Answer To The Brand Advertising Conundrum

There are two primary types of online advertising: direct sales marketing and branded ad campaigns. Direct sales models like online affiliate marketing or email marketing have already been proven. However large brands have only begun spending billions of dollars online, because there have been very few ways to monitor the effectiveness of campaigns. Let’s say that you set up a Facebook application which millions of users interacted with. How do you then measure the ROI of that program once it’s complete? Given that large companies spend hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars on advertising everywhere, it’s difficult to…

Facebook Announcing New Advertising Product Tomorrow? (Updated)

Tomorrow afternoon Facebook will make a special announcement at Ad Week NYC and they’ve been promoting the announcement heavily via the Facebook Marketing solutions page. Apparently the live stream will be posted on the page and while no details have been provided regarding the announcement, it sounds as though a new advertising product will be launched or upgrades to the existing ones will be rolled out.

Last week I posted screenshots of the new Facebook ad manager which was being tested out with some advertisers so perhaps the company will be announcing the new service for everybody. Or perhaps we’ll…

Virtual Protests Erupt In YoVille

YoVille, one of the largest virtual worlds on Facebook, recently experienced a relatively large protest against a major change yesterday which modified the way users can earn virtual currency. Previously, users entered a widget factory from where they could earn coins. While users can still earn coins there is a new process in which users must spend money to make money (as is typical in the real world). A number of users are furious and in the past few hours I’ve received numerous users frustrated with the change.

The position of the users was that less money was being generated…

What Makes Hard Drive Data Recovery So Difficult?

Computer crashes are quite common these days and most of us have had to experience the stress of losing important files and attempted hard drive data recovery. Of the many problems a computer can be stuck with, hard drive failure is perhaps the most destructive and once it happens, the process of retrieving data is not an easy one. Plus, the cost can run to the thousands. And no, it’s not because those who specialize in recovering data from a hard drive merely want to make things more difficult to the computer owner; it’s because the job of hard drive…

How To Use Competitive Analysis To Boost Your Facebook Fan Base

This is Day 26 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.
If you are the average small business owner, there is a good chance that the majority of your competition isn’t doing much in the social media space. However there always is at least one person who stands out from the rest and I’m sure you can think of at least one company which accels where others aren’t even trying. For larger brands, having a social media presence (including Facebook) hasn’t been optional for at least a few years now. If…

CFE denies cancellation of 900MW La Parota hydro project – Mexico

Mexican state power company CFE has postponed, not cancelled, construction of the 900MW La Parota hydroelectric dam in Guerrero state, the company said. The decision to delay the plant’s construction was based primarily on the country’s sufficient generation margin, the difference between capacity and peak demand. CFE made the announcement to media outlets to counter an article published by local paper El Universal that said the company was cancelling the project entirely. “It is not cancelled. It is delayed,” a CFE spokesperson told BNamericas, adding that the company’s position remains in line with the federal program for energy works and…

India Approves Release of 40 Billion Rupees in Farm Loan Subsidy

NEW DELHI — India’s federal cabinet Thursday approved the release of 40 billion rupees ($826.4 million) to state-run banks as a subsidy to offset revenue losses arising from the grant of cheap short-term farm loans. The funds, already provided for in this fiscal year’s budget, come at a time when loan demand for winter-sown crops usually picks up. “For this year, the government has decided to continue the ongoing interest subvention scheme with the provision of interest subvention at 2% to the banks on their own funds,” Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni, said at a news conference. State-run banks…

He estimated that the government will need an additional 200 contract IT workers. “As one of Hong Kong’s largest users of IT, the government’s IT expenditure has a major impact on the healthy development of the ICT sector.
