I just wanted to take a minute to post links to a site that were very helpful to me last week. At my job, I rarely use UCCX(IPCC). The extent of my UCCX experience is scratching my way through the documentation enough to use it for TAPs and thats it. I installed it again recently [...]

Home made rollerbar mouse
[Judyofthewoods] has hacked together this rollerbar mouse. We’ve heard people talk about these in a positive way, going on about how comfortable they are. We haven’t really experimented with one much to verify. This one looks surprisingly nice considering it is made from scrap. The image above is showing it without the cover that hides the hot glue and optical sensor. There isn’t much of a writeup, but as you can see from the picture, there isn’t much necessity for one either. She seems to have done a great job stating that it is fairly smooth with only minor…
GNS3 (dynamips) and Voice-Labs
I hear often that it is hard to practice/demo voice related configurations with GNS3. This is only partially true.
It is correct that GNS3 cannot substitute Multiservice routers like 28xx etc because the DSP resources cannot be emulated. For using T1/E1 or FXS/FXO connections you need the real hardware interfaces and of course another PBX/router interface to connect your T1 to. If you have a double T1 you could use a T1 x-over to let the router do both ends.
For all other configurations like Dial-peers, translation patterns, SIP-UA configurations, CME, ephone registrations, CUBE etc, GNS3 can do the job. Just an example…
Open garage door indicator
How many times has this one happened to you? Just coming home from work, you walk in from the garage, settle down, and pick up the newspaper. But wait, did you remember to shut the garage door?
Presenting the open garage door indicator. [xjc2010] chose the simplest circuit possible, using only a switch to turn on and off the setup, an LED acting as the signal, and a transformer/resistor combo to drop the voltage to an acceptable LED friendly 2.8 volts. We don’t like how he strung wire all over his house to place the beacon, and would have…
SocialHour Relaunches As Dizzy Networks (Updated)
It appears that Social Hour, one of the few ad networks to be completely banned from the Facebook platform, has now relaunched under a new name: Dizzy Networks. According to one source, Social Hour had been looking for a new face for the company and according to the company’s website, they hired Jeremy Olsson, who was previously the Director of Performance Marketing for RockYou. While the company is still focused on trying to convert IQ quizzes, it doesn’t appear as though Dizzy Networks is running as aggressive of advertisements this time around.
It was only a matter of time before…
Ben Heck gets sloppy and we love it
[Ben Heck] is a name synonymous with game system hacking. His projects have been seen and praised by people all over the world for both their quality and their ingenuity. He’s so good, in fact, that many of his projects have gone far beyond what we typically think of as hacking. They look and feel like commercial products. While that is a fantastic accomplishment, we have a soft spot for seeing stuff that is truly hacked. This lasted job he did is a great example. The controller needed to work using a single hand, so he hacked it. He was in a…
MP3 Hand Grenade
One man’s useless machine is another man’s treasure… or something. [Matt] shared a link to his MP3 gr3nade in the comments of our useless machines post. The project took a decomissioned hand grenade and shoehorned an MP3 player into it. His decision to locate the headphone jack where the safety pin goes is a nice touch.
This reminds us of the boss from a previous job who had a chrome plated hand grenade on his desk. Now that was a useless object (and a useless boss). This project actually does something, but are you really going to ride around…
Wireless RGB light bulb
Want to make the above yourself? [Sprite_tm] did a thorough job documenting the build step by step (complete with pics, schematics, graphs, and links to the parts used). In summary, [Sprite_tm] busted open an Ikea CFL bulb to reuse the housing. Inside, he installed a scavenged power supply, ATtiny44, RGB LED module, and a radio receiver. A remote control allows [Sprite_tm] to change the lighting of his room to nearly any color. The cost of the project is a little under $30. The price tag isn’t so steep when one considers the insanely long lifetime of LEDs.
Become an Internet Sourcer… Use Your Surfing Talent and Make a
I’ve spent many thousands of hours on the Internet searching forinformation, jobs, contracts, people, and other items ofinterest. You can literally find out anything! How to make your project an Internet sensation
We’d like to spend some time talking about documenting your project and sharing it with the world. For many, the goal is to become an Internet sensation, hopefully for the right reasons. Taking a bit more time to make certain you do a great job of sharing your information will pay off. Here at hackaday.comwe focus on technological wonders but these guidelines should work well at improving the desirability of anything you might want to share on the interweb.
1. Pictures
Yes, you need to have a picture to go with your project. Even if you did something that…

What Makes Hard Drive Data Recovery So Difficult?
Computer crashes are quite common these days and most of us have had to experience the stress of losing important files and attempted hard drive data recovery. Of the many problems a computer can be stuck with, hard drive failure is perhaps the most destructive and once it happens, the process of retrieving data is not an easy one. Plus, the cost can run to the thousands. And no, it’s not because those who specialize in recovering data from a hard drive merely want to make things more difficult to the computer owner; it’s because the job of hard drive…
