Facebook Announcing New Advertising Product Tomorrow? (Updated)

Tomorrow afternoon Facebook will make a special announcement at Ad Week NYC and they’ve been promoting the announcement heavily via the Facebook Marketing solutions page. Apparently the live stream will be posted on the page and while no details have been provided regarding the announcement, it sounds as though a new advertising product will be launched or upgrades to the existing ones will be rolled out.

Last week I posted screenshots of the new Facebook ad manager which was being tested out with some advertisers so perhaps the company will be announcing the new service for everybody. Or perhaps we’ll…

World’s Sexiest Man Is Also One Of The Dumbest Marketers

“I would rather have a prostate exam on live telvision by a guy with very cold hands than have a Facebook page,” George Clooney told a group of reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival. Clooney, who was previously named the world’s sexiest man alive, probably didn’t realize that his Facebook fan page is not far from becoming one of the 1,000 most popular Pages. While I can’t blame the guy for preferring to jet set around the world without the hassle of managing his online presence, he’s missing a big opportunity.

There are millions of women would love the…

@You Can Now Tag Users, Pages, And Apps On Facebook

Last week we wrote about Facebook’s new tagging functionality but as of this afternoon the feature finally went live. While the functionality is no different than initially described, many users are finding that this transforms the overall user experience. There are also many objects on Facebook which still can’t be tagged with applications and pages such as photos. You also can’t include tags within Facebook messages but I’d expect more robust tagging functionality to be added over the coming weeks and months.

So does this new functionality eliminate the need for Twitter? No, but it most definitely helps users to…

MTV Partners With YoVille For VMA Promotion

YoVille, the popular Facebook virtual world, has partnered with MTV to help promote this weekend’s Video Music Awards. The campaign involves a number of integration points including custom MTV gear and items, a party at the virtual lounge “Sky Nightclub”, and an MTV VMA Room Contest. The promotion is one of the most integrated campaigns that we’ve seen on a Facebook virtual world and it’s a trend that we’d expect to continue.

I personally found the MTV VMA Room Contest to be one of the most entertaining promotions. Users are encouraged to design their room as stylishly as possible and…

Why You Won’t Get 3,000 Facebook Fans Without Research

This is Day 19 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.
One of the best ways of ensuring that your Facebook Page will be successful is to copy other successful ones. It’s no secret that the best marketers are most influenced by other successful marketers. While there are a lot of research methods I would suggest taking a look at our Facebook Pages leaderboard (which is in the process of being updated), and selecting the most popular as well as the fastest growing. We’ll also soon begin to provide more advanced…

Facebook Adding Stream Clicks To Page Insights

Want to track how many clicks you are getting on those news stories being posted to your Facebook Page? While Facebook hasn’t provided any tool to track clicks yet, there’s one in the works as buzzmarketing daily notes. For now, Facebook will only be providing page administrators with estimated click through rates. While not as useful as tracking every single stream post’s activity, many administrators will be happy to see the new feature.

Facebook describes the new service as follows:

Stream CTR / ETR: This graph is a measure of the Click Through Rate and Engagement Rate for your content…

Use Cross-Promotion To Skyrocket Your Facebook Page Fan Base

This is Day 18 of the 30 Days to 3,000 Fans program. You can learn more about the program here.
Have you already invested time and money in building your web presence? Take advantage of it and use your website to cross-promote your Facebook Page. Many people are concerned that directing visitors from their website to their Facebook Page isn’t useful because those users end up not returning to the site. Ultimately the user’s navigational pattern should be based on the goals for your site.

Driving users to your Facebook Page is extremely useful for creating an ongoing dialogue. As…

What Developers And Marketers Need To Know About Facebook’s New Inbox And Notification APIs

This afternoon Facebook is announcing an extended set of features for developers including a new Inbox API and Notification API. The first announcement is a big one: “The Inbox API allows you to access your users’ messages, once they grant your application the new read_mailbox extended permission.” That means we could soon see a ton of new applications built around managing users’ Facebook inboxes. The one downside of this new feature is that applications cannot currently send messages.

What’s Being Added?
As part of the new inbox, attachments can be created using the same model used for developing publisher attachments…

Facebook’s Race To Collect Our Digital Identities

Over the past few years Facebook has grown from a tool for connecting with others to a tool for sharing information with others. This new model is helping Facebook to collect more relevant information about consumers and is slowly changing the advertising world forever. We are in the midst of a shift toward monitoring our digital footprints and Facebook is currently taking the lead in what appears to be a battle for our commercial identities.

The Death Of Cookie Advertising
As the internet emerged, numerous technologies began to sprout up which provided marketers with the ability to group, monitor, and…

Conversation With Etsy About Their New Facebook Connect Implementation

Etsy recently launched their first integration with Facebook Connect and from the sounds of it, have a number of other exciting Facebook-enabled products on the way. Below is my interview with Sean Flannagan about the company’s experience with implementing Connect.

How To Attract 3,000 Fans in 30 Days

I previously wrote about the launch of a series on “How to Attract 3,000 Fans in 30 Days”. Almost 1,000 people registered for the program but it ended up taking much longer to create the content than I had thought it would. Thankfully I have now completed the guide and starting this week, I will begin posting the full series. While this series will be published on the site, there will be numerous ways to access the content including a downloadable e-book as well as a new course that I’ll be offering through New Media School.

So what does the…
