Convert Cisco IP-Phone from SIP to Skinny (SCCP) and reverse

I have often been asked for a quick way to convert a Cisco IP-Phone between SIP and SCCP. People get their IP-Phones often from E-Bay or other 2nd hand resource for testing and practicing and they may receive them with the ”other” phone load they didn’t want. The easiest way to convert is via Autoregistration. With CME this is a litle more complex, but with UCM (v6 or higher) this is an easy task.
First of all, switch on Autoregistration. If you need help with that, there is another post by Brandon in this blog how to switch on Autoregistration.
Second,…

Changes to GlobalConfig.net

I want to take a minute to address the over 450 subscribers here at GlobalConfig.net.  Over a year ago when I started blogging I was primarily about my CCIE Studies.  Now that I have passed the CCIE Security I am on to the R&S and Voice, kinda at the same time.  With that, work, and family it’s been difficult to bring you fresh, useful content.  That’s all about to change.
Here are the changes to the blog that I believe will make it a better resource for you:

The Domain Changed to http://www.ascoltablogs.com.  The old URL will still work- but…

The Story Behind Facebook’s “Secret” Audio Application

Last week I wrote that Facebook may be launching an audio product given the addition of audio within the page insights area. I reached out to Facebook for comment and found out that this wasn’t actually a soon to be released product, but instead an audio product that already exists. The “Music Player” application originally launched with pages and lets you upload songs for your fans to listen to.

While I wouldn’t exactly call this a robust application, it provides enough support for you to at least get songs posted on your page. This tool would be most useful for…

Eee PC bios resurrection

Hot on the heels of our post about reading passwords from EEPROM, [n0th1n6] tipped us off about a similar hack used to resurrect an Eee PC from a bad bios flash. After discovering that a factory repair for a dead bios costs about $200, [CutenaCute_7] took on the challenge herself. She disassembled the computer and desoldered the bios chip from the board. After writing a program to flash the chip using C#, she temporarily soldered jumpers to make sure the flash worked. Looks like this is a zero cost hack, plus the time savings from not having to ship…

SocialHour Relaunches As Dizzy Networks (Updated)

It appears that Social Hour, one of the few ad networks to be completely banned from the Facebook platform, has now relaunched under a new name: Dizzy Networks. According to one source, Social Hour had been looking for a new face for the company and according to the company’s website, they hired Jeremy Olsson, who was previously the Director of Performance Marketing for RockYou. While the company is still focused on trying to convert IQ quizzes, it doesn’t appear as though Dizzy Networks is running as aggressive of advertisements this time around.

It was only a matter of time before…

Berlin Hack Day

This past weekend, Berlin played host to Music Hack Day – an event where attendants built and tested hacks, contraptions, and software all dealing with sound, music, or the distribution thereof. Some of the hacks are simply mind blowing to see built in only a day or two. Like the location based CitySounds.fm or Tracks on a Map – mapping out where your music is from. Or the music based games and composition tools, iLoveAcid squencer and MaschineFighter – adding some crazy fun to MIDI.
Oh, we almost forgot, we can’t go an entire post without mentioning something Arduino;…

Changes To Student Loan Payments Scrapped

Wellington, Sept 22 NZPA – Changes that would have seen students paying off their student loan in their holidays have been scrapped. Currently people with student loans have to make repayments if they earn over $19,084 a year. The changes would have switched the threshold to weekly, fortnightly or monthly, in line with an individual’s pay period. The total yearly threshold will remain unchanged, however students who work full time during the holidays may have found themselves over the $367 weekly threshold and having to make payments while they save for the year ahead. Revenue Minister Peter Dunne said the…

YoVille Achieves Record Daily Traffic Numbers Despite Protests

Over the weekend I wrote about the “massive protests” taking place in Zynga’s virtual world YoVille. I kind of poked at the protesters in the article because they are the vocal minority. When you’re in the midst of a protest it appears as if everybody is protesting. The new changes were controversial for those users who had spent time and money on the game over the past year or two. The main issue was that users are now forced to return to the game on a timed basis in order to earn revenue. I’m still not convinced it’s an unfair…

MP3 Hand Grenade

One man’s useless machine is another man’s treasure… or something. [Matt] shared a link to his MP3 gr3nade in the comments of our useless machines post. The project took a decomissioned hand grenade and shoehorned an MP3 player into it. His decision to locate the headphone jack where the safety pin goes is a nice touch.
This reminds us of the boss from a previous job who had a chrome plated hand grenade on his desk.  Now that was a useless object (and a useless boss). This project actually does something, but are you really going to ride around…

How to make your project an Internet sensation

We’d like to spend some time talking about documenting your project and sharing it with the world. For many, the goal is to become an Internet sensation, hopefully for the right reasons. Taking a bit more time to make certain you do a great job of sharing your information will pay off. Here at hackaday.comwe focus on technological wonders but these guidelines should work well at improving the desirability of anything you might want to share on the interweb.

1. Pictures
Yes, you need to have a picture to go with your project. Even if you did something that…
