We were momentarily excited when we heard that CableCARD compatible tuners will be available for purchase by the end of the year. A card like this would allow you to hook up your digital cable to your computer and record programs natively. This has been possible for a long time with analog cable and PVR software such as MythTV. Up to this point, recording digital cable has required a dedicated cable box and workarounds to allow the computer to change channels.
Wait a minute though, the announcement was made by Microsoft? Indeed. Microsoft has been making a big push…

Vonage on iPhone
Vonage has promised to release an official iPhone app to compete with other providers such as Skype, and it is currently working its way through Apple’s well documented approval process. Unfortunately, this app would most likely come with an initial cost and/or subscription fee, though a way has been figured out to retrieve Vonage’s SIP authentication information, which would allow use of the Vonage network over other iPhone SIP Clients such as Fring. This solution does still contain the Wi-Fi only clause, but we have ways of making you talk, iPhone. This could also possibly be used on other platforms…
Zong Becomes First Mobile Payment Provider To Test Integration With Facebook Credits
While much of the U.S. uses credit cards to make online purchases, many other countries still don’t have easy services for making online transactions. Mobile transactions are clearly a step in that direction. The first company to test mobile payments with Facebook is Zong, as spotted by Erin McCune earlier yesterday. Facebook has also confirmed that they are currently working with developers to test a variety of payment integrations.
This is a big step for Zong who is currently one of the leading mobile payment providers (as well as a sponsor of this site). Interestingly enough, payments through mobile providers…

Affiliate Marketers Flock To Facebook And Click Fraud Skyrockets
Over the past few weeks, big affiliate advertisers on Facebook have reported a spike in fake clicks, but this is only part of where Facebook has faced challenges within its ad network over the past few months. The reason for the surge in fake clicks is a result of a number of things including the creation of Facebook ad scrapers that are being used to track advertisers’ ads on the site and what pages the ads are linking to.
An Affiliate Land Rush Begins
Prior to exploring the current claims for click fraud, I thought it would be important to…
Facebook Shuts Down SocialReach For Violating Platform Terms
Last night Facebook took aggressive action to stop the increased level of application Facebooks ads that are in violation of Facebook’s terms by shutting down SocialReach. As I’ve been covering for the past few days, the volume of spam ads on Facebook have been increasing over the past few weeks. Some developers have even been reporting substantial jumps in revenue from these ad networks which is understandable considering how aggressive the ads are. Around midnight last night the company sent out the following letter to all publishers:
Monday, June 8th, 2009
Facebook Publishers:
Due to circumstances beyond our control we…
Facebook Duplicates Twitter, Launches Status Text Updates
Earlier today Facebook turned on a feature to let users receive text updates from public profiles, the same way that Twitter users can receive mobile updates from specified profiles. It’s a small change but for brands it adds a lot of potential. Mobile broadcasting is a huge feature for companies that are looking to reach out to fans directly.
While Facebook hasn’t added a subscription count to a public profile’s insights yet, I would imagine that to be a new measurement within public profile insights in the near future. At this point, there’s little else functionality provided by Twitter that…
